AFDA Cape Town Production Design lecturer Catherine Jacot‑Guillarmod is an award‑winning production designer and art director with over 15 years of experience spanning theatre, television, and interactive media. Her academic credentials include a BFA from Rhodes University (2004), a postgraduate teaching qualification, and an MFA in Theatre Design & Production (with a specialization in set and costume design) from Tulane University (2012).
Early in her career, Catherine worked with Ubom! Eastern Cape Theatre Company, where she developed a practice rooted in community‑driven storytelling. This early grounding shaped her creative ethos and informed her later work across performance and screen.
Her outstanding work in television was most notably recognized for Puppet Nation ZA (ZANEWS), where she co‑led the production design team. In both 2016 and 2017, she earned consecutive SAFTA awards for Best Achievement in Art/Production Design – TV Comedy, for her work on the series.
Since 2017, Catherine has served as Lecturer in Production Design at AFDA Cape Town, mentoring the next generation of filmmakers with her professional insight and creative leadership
Most recently, Catherine has expanded her creative expertise into the interactive sector, working as a freelance Art Director for Egamea, where she builds cohesive 3D environments, character designs, and UI that blend compelling narrative and immersive player experience.
Catherine’s career shows how a solid academic foundation, community‑oriented beginnings, and recognition in national television can blend into a creative trajectory that spans live theatre, broadcast, teaching, and emerging media.
