AFDA alumnus hits No.1 spot on Netflix

The film “Heart of the Hunter”, shot by AFDA alumnus Trevor Calverley (SASC) has achieved the incredible feat of clocking No. 1 spot in English-language films on the Netflix Top 10 weekly rankings – the first African film to do so!

This past week, it was viewed for a total of 11 million views, and shot to the Netflix top 10 list in 75 countries, amongst them:

Americas:
United States, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Panama, the Bahamas, Venezuela, Bolivia, Peru

Europe:
France, Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Greece, Norway, Denmark, Czech Republic, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Poland

Africa:
Kenya, Mauritius, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, Reunion

Asia & Middle East :
Turkey, Lebanon, Cyprus, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Philippines, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, South Korea.

“Heart of The Hunter” is an adaptation of the book of the same name by South African novelist and screenwriter Deon Meyer.

Trevor completed his honours at AFDA (the South African school of Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance) winning best Cinematographer in 2005.

His student films have won numerous awards including, Best Cinematography for “Holiday” at the New York international Film festival in 2006 and best foreign language film for “Elalini” at the Student Oscars 2006. This same film won the best cinematography award at the Civic Theatre Film festival in 2006.
