Brett Michael Innes is an accomplished filmmaker whose features and shorts have premiered in competition at festivals such as Berlinale, Sundance, IFFR, Tallinn Black Nights, Atlanta, IFFK, Sydney, and Urbanworld. Two of his feature films — Sink and Fiela se Kind — each won SAFTAs for Best Film and Best Screenplay in their respective years.
In television, Brett has directed episodes of Catch Me A Killer (selected for Series Mania 2024) and Season 2 of the Netflix “Global Top 10” original Unseen.
2025 has been a standout year for him: his feature film My F#k Marelize achieved the highest box-office returns of any South African film since 2016, and his comedy Khaki Fever broke records as the most-viewed Afrikaans film in Showmax history. Meanwhile, The Heart Is a Muscle, which he co-produced, was recently selected as South Africa’s official submission for Best International Feature at the Oscars and won Best Film at the Silwerskermfees Film Festival.
