AFDA is proud to celebrate the achievements of Nkululeko Mdluli, a 2024 BCom in Innovation and Entrepreneurship graduate whose groundbreaking work in biotechnology and health-tech is receiving global acclaim. Mdluli’s tech startup, Subatomic Eye, has just received its second international award this year from F6S, being named one of the Top 9 Biotech Companies in South Africa for July 2025. This follows an earlier accolade in April, where the company ranked in the Top 5, standing out among more than 2 million startups on the global F6S platform.
Subatomic Eye is more than just a startup, it represents a bold vision for the future of healthcare. The company is pioneering medical imaging technology powered by quantum science, with an audacious mission:
To extend the human lifespan beyond 200 years by detecting diseases 5–10 years before symptoms appear.

Mdluli is a true multidisciplinary innovator whose work sits at the intersection of neurobiology, AI, and quantum technology. As Founder of InsideOut Cellular Health, he developed non-invasive sensor arrays that allow over 500 million diabetics and 1.3 billion hypertensive patients to monitor their conditions without needles or cuffs. This is a breakthrough for global healthcare access.
As CEO of Subatomic Eye, he’s tackling a major issue flagged by the World Health Organization: the 40% global diagnostic error rate, which affects over 100 million patients annually. His quantum-powered imaging technology promises earlier and more accurate disease detection at the subatomic level.
Beyond health-tech, Nkululeko has left his mark in AI and business innovation. At Hexsoftwares, he developed AI virtual assistants, chatbots, and fraud detection systems, increasing efficiency for more than 50,000 users. As an AI Industry Scientist with the International AI Alliance (AIIA), he is contributing to cutting-edge research in precision diagnostics and AI-driven drug discovery.
Currently, Nkululeko also serves as a Business Strategist at FundaVR, where he leads the design of immersive VR and AR experiences that are revolutionizing corporate training and customer engagement.
