AFDA proudly celebrates the achievement of AFDA Gqeberha Cinematography and Data & Grading lecturer Lyndon Brandt, whose work as cinematographer on the conservation film The Science Behind Vulture Breeding earned finalist recognition at the prestigious International Tourism Film Festival Africa (ITFFA) 2026.
Produced by Shamwari TV, an innovative online platform dedicated to conservation storytelling, the film was shot at Shamwari Private Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape and explores the vital scientific work being done to protect and preserve endangered vulture populations. The production was officially selected as a finalist in the Wildlife & Conservation category at ITFFA 2026, one of Africa’s leading tourism and conservation film festivals.
As cinematographer, Brandt played a key role in visually capturing the powerful intersection between conservation, science and storytelling. His cinematic approach brings audiences closer to the delicate and often unseen work involved in wildlife rehabilitation and breeding programmes, while showcasing the natural beauty of the Eastern Cape landscape.
The International Tourism Film Festival Africa is recognised globally for celebrating excellence in tourism, wildlife, conservation and destination storytelling through film. The 2026 edition attracted hundreds of entries from around the world, highlighting the growing importance of visual storytelling within the tourism and environmental sectors.
Beyond his industry work, Brandt continues to shape emerging filmmakers through his role at AFDA Gqeberha, where he lectures in cinematography, data management and grading. His active involvement in internationally recognised productions ensures students gain insight into current industry practices, professional workflows and the evolving demands of contemporary filmmaking.
AFDA congratulates Lyndon Brandt on this outstanding achievement and celebrates his contribution to both the South African film industry and the next generation of African storytellers.
