Jul 10, 2021 | News

AFDA students have proved that in life, nothing is impossible to achieve when you have enthusiasm, optimism, confidence, and commitment. On the 25 June 2021, AFDA 3rd year students from our Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth campuses promise to offer audiences an eye-popping and mind-boggling experience at the annual AFDA Experimental Festival. Due to COVID-19 restrictions the festival will take place online, giving festival goers the opportunity to enjoy the festival from the comfort of their own homes anywhere around the world.

As part of their curriculum students explore experimental concepts and present their outcomes from their own course at the Experimental Festival, which ultimately embodies the scope of the future of the creative economy. Our Business Innovation and Technology students, will launch their cutting- edge, on-the-money business concepts. AFDA Film and Television students will screen over 60 experimental films and TV documentaries and Live Performance students will stage over 30 experimental theatre plays and music performances.

“The experimental festival is a unique opportunity for third year students to discover and express their artistic intent as well as experiment with film, theatre, music and television craft techniques. AFDA is also extremely proud to have our third year B Com students present their innovative business models to the public in this creative space” says AFDA CEO Teresa Passchier.

In 2020, the AFDA Experimental Festival also needed to be held online due to COVID-19 restrictions, and proved to be a massive success, receiving over a 19 600 views from spectators in 83 countries around the world.
