At AFDA staff are encouraged to continue to be active contributors to the entertainment industry. This is exemplified by Kuba Silkiewicz, Head of the Music Performance Programme at AFDA Cape Town, who is currently performing in the 2026 production of Pretty Woman: The Musical at Artscape Theatre Centre.
As one of two guitarists in the production’s live band, Kuba continues to demonstrate the calibre of talent that defines AFDA’s faculty. His involvement extends beyond a single production, with another major musical already on the horizon as he will also be performing in the 2026 season of Mamma Mia! later this year.
A seasoned multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, and educator, Kuba brings a wealth of industry experience into the classroom. His performance career spans both local and international stages, with credits including globally celebrated productions such as Mamma Mia! (2010 & 2024), Jersey Boys, Chicago, Priscilla – Queen of the Desert, West Side Story, The Colour Purple, and The Buddy Holly Story. This breadth of experience ensures that AFDA students are guided by a practitioner who understands the demands and nuances of professional performance at the highest level.
Beyond the stage, Kuba has cultivated an impressive studio career spanning over 16 years. His musical collaborations highlight his versatility and standing in the industry. Kuba’s compositions have been performed by renowned South African artists including Hildegardt Whites, Keabetswe Motsilanyane, Christin Raath, and Amor Vittone.
As a performer, he has shared the stage with leading names such as Karlien van Jaarsveld, as well as collaborated with prestigious ensembles like the Johannesburg Festival Orchestra and Philharmonic orchestras. His performance résumé also includes working alongside international icon Dave Stewart and celebrated South African performers like Mark Lottering and Jonathan Roxmouth.
Complementing his professional achievements, Kuba is also an accomplished academic. He recently completed a Master of Fine Arts at AFDA, graduating as valedictorian of the class of 2025.
Kuba’s ongoing work in high-profile productions reflects the ethos of AFDA: a dynamic learning environment where educators actively shape and participate in the industries they teach.
