At AFDA’s Cape Town campus, storytelling is often taught as both craft and calling. For AFDA lecturer Zain Omarjee, that philosophy has culminated in the release of his debut novel, When The Cherished Is Home, a deeply introspective work shaped over five years as what he describes as a true “labour of love.”
Blending poetic memoir with spiritual inquiry, the book is not simply a narrative, but an invitation. It asks readers to reconsider the idea of “home”, not as a physical location, but as a layered inner dwelling composed of the body, mind, memory, and spirit.
