Jul 8, 2026 | Learning Staff, News

From acclaimed television productions to experimental theatre stages, Andisiwe Mpinda has built a career defined by versatility, creativity, and a passion for storytelling. As a full-time Live Performance Lecturer at AFDA Johannesburg, she brings that wealth of industry experience into the classroom, inspiring the next generation of performers to develop both their artistic voice and professional practice.
Known to television audiences for her role as Linda on Generations: The Legacy, Andisiwe has established herself as a respected performer whose work spans screen, stage, and audio drama. Her diverse career reflects the breadth of South Africa’s creative industries and demonstrates the importance of adaptability in an ever-evolving performance landscape.
Alongside her television work, Andisiwe starred as Sibu in the YFM audio drama series Tequila AF, showcasing the power of voice performance in an emerging storytelling medium. Her ability to move seamlessly between live performance, broadcast television, and audio storytelling provides AFDA students with valuable insight into the many career opportunities available to today’s performers.
Her theatre career has been equally distinguished. Andisiwe has collaborated extensively with institutions including Johannesburg’s The Market Theatre and The Centre for the Less Good Idea, performing in productions such as Ekasi Lam and Devil on the Cross. These works explore bold, socially engaged narratives and innovative performance techniques, reinforcing her belief in theatre as both an artistic practice and a catalyst for meaningful conversation.
Beyond her performance career, Andisiwe is deeply committed to arts education and cultural development. With an academic background in Cultural Policy and Management, she combines scholarly knowledge with practical industry experience to provide students with a holistic understanding of the performing arts sector. At AFDA Johannesburg, she teaches Live Performance across both Bachelor’s and Honours programmes, guiding students as they refine their craft, build confidence, and prepare for professional careers.
For Andisiwe, education is about nurturing authentic artists who understand not only how to perform, but why storytelling matters. Her teaching encourages students to engage critically with their work, embrace collaboration, and recognise the social and cultural impact of performance.
Her dual role as a working performer and educator ensures that the learning environment remains connected to current industry practice. Students benefit from first-hand knowledge of the realities of professional performance, while gaining the creative discipline and resilience needed to navigate a competitive industry.
At AFDA, lecturers who actively contribute to the creative industries enrich the educational experience by bringing contemporary practice into every lesson. Andisiwe Mpinda exemplifies this philosophy, demonstrating how professional excellence and academic mentorship work hand in hand to shape confident, innovative, and socially conscious graduates.
As she continues to perform, teach, and contribute to South Africa’s vibrant creative landscape, Andisiwe remains a powerful example of AFDA’s commitment to excellence in both industry and education.
