AFDA ALUMNI STAR AT SOUTH AFRICAN MUSIC AWARDS 2021

Aug 2, 2021 | News

The winners of this year’s South African Music Awards (SAMAs) were announced virtually on 31 July and AFDA alumni behind the mic and behind the scenes once again stepped into the limelight fetching three awards.

Bongeziwe Mabandla picked up his second SAMA winning the Best Alternative Album award for his album “Iimini”.

Ofentse Mwase’s trophy display cabinet may need an extra shelf after he won the Best Produced Music Video for “Hosh” by Prince Kaybee feat Sir Trill, making his tally of SAMA awards three.

The Best Collaboration award went to Mali Eningi – Big Zulu, feat AFDA alumnus Riky Rick and Intaba yase Dubai.

Bongesizwe Mabandla who is currently on tour in Europe had this to say about winning the SAMA in these tough times in a Facebook post “The award comes at a good time because things have been quiet hard. Two months on the road touring with all the Covid protocols is no joke. I am tired.

This award means something but it is not everything. What is everything is the true connection I have felt with the people who discovered and supported my music over the past 18 months. Also to those people who have been there before this journey started. I see and hear you all and wish I could write to all of you to explain what all of this means.”

“A big congratulations to the SAMA27 winners,” RiSA CEO Nhlanhla Sibisi said. “They have carved their names into the history books of South African music, what a proud moment. RiSA and the SAMAs strive to shine the light on local talent and will continue to do so.”
