Big win for AFDA alumni at Silwerskermfees

AFDA is delighted to announce that AFDA alumnus Jordy Sank’s debut feature film “Die Kwiksilwers” won the Festival Favourite award, Best Sound Design in a Feature Film award and the Best Make-up and Hair Styling in a Feature Film award at the The kykNET Silwerskerm Film Festival.

Jordy was the executive producer, director and screenwriter on the film. Fellow AFDA alumni Marista van Eeden was also the screenwriter, Esther Badenhorst the editor and Edward George King did the soundtrack and original score.

“This is the big one!!! To know the film resonated with the audience so much, to hear people laugh and cry in the cinema is one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I am beyond grateful.” says editor Esther Badenhorst.

AFDA alumnus Tom Marais added to his already over flowing trophy cabinet picking up the Best Cinematography in a Short Film award for the film “Mairie se laaste dag”.

The kykNET Silwerskerm Film Festival is an esteemed South African and Afrikaans film and content festival that has nurtured, developed and empowered the local industry for the past 12 years. It has proven to be a seminal platform for seasoned and emerging filmmakers alike. Alongside the world or South African premieres of the latest feature films, the Silwerskerm Festival showcases the work of young talent with a diverse series of short films produced with the festival’s financial backing and mentorship.
