Whether you are an AFDA student or hope to study at AFDA, this page can help you find bursaries that are currently open for application

We have filtered opportunities from Bursaries South Africa to show open calls that may fund students at private higher education institutions and in fields offered by AFDA. There may not always be a bursary for your specific field. If this happens, look for bursaries open to all fields of study and apply if you meet their other requirements, such as where you live or your gender.

Welcome to AFDA’s Bursary Opportunities

Applying for a bursary does not guarantee that you will receive funding. Bursaries are very competitive
Your bursary agreement is between you and the funder. AFDA is not part of this agreement, but we can offer advice and, where possible, support you in managing your relationship with the funder
You may apply for as many bursaries as you qualify for throughout the year, but you may accept only one.
Apply during the year before the year in which you plan to study and receive funding.
Some bursaries cover only part of your tuition fees, and not all bursaries provide allowances.
NSFAS does not fund students at private higher education institutions such as AFDA.

All qualifications	Amandla Omoya Trust Bursary	Any field of study at NQF level 6 or above. Applicants must reside within 50 km of Jeffrreys Bay Wind Farm in the Eastern Cape. Includes technical or skills training, National Diploma and Degree programmes
All qualifications	Khobab Wind Farm Bursary	Any field of study. Applicants must reside in Loeriesfontein, Northern Cape.
All qualifications	Letsatsi Borutho Trust Bursary	All fields of study: Degree, National Diploma, or NQF level 6 technical and vocational programme. Applicants must reside within 50 km of the Droogfontein Solar Power plant in the Northern Cape.
BCOM	Old Mutual Imfundo Trust Scholarship	Business and Commerce.
Bachelor of Fine Arts & Design	SARB (South African Reserve Bank) Art Scholarship	Bachelor of Fine Arts & Design
All qualifications	The Tiso Foundation	Bursaries will be awarded to deserving previously disadvantaged students for Undergraduate studies (Degree or Diploma) in ANY field, at any University or University of Technology. Although AFDA is not a Government University, we suggest you try applying here if you meet the two main criteria of academic merit and financial need.

All Fields	Garden Route District Municipality Bursary South Africa 2027	Your parents must permanently reside within the Garden Route municipal area, in the Western Cape province You must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric You must be studying or intend on studying towards a full-time qualification in 2027 You must be studying or intend on studying at a recognised and accredited SAQA accredited tertiary/ TVET institution
All Fields	Mulilo Bursary South Africa 2027	You must be a South African citizen You must permanently reside within the Northern Cape province, in either of these municipalities: Emthanjeni, Renosterberg or Siyathemba You must be currently in Matric or have completed Matric You must be studying or intend on study towards a qualification, in ANY field You must be studying or have applied to study at a recognised and accredited accredited tertiary or trade institution in South Africa
BA Live Performance Music or BA Motion Picture Music	SASMT Study Bursary	You must be a South African citizen You must be an existing paid-up SASMT member of more than 2 years You must be studying or intend on studying towards a Music qualification You must be studying or accepted to study at a recognised and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa
BA Live Performance Music or BA Motion Picture Music	David Reunert Bursary	You must be a student of current and paid-up members of the SASMT You must reside in South Africa You must be between 18 and 25 years old You must be studying Music and intend on taking up music professionally, either as teacher or performer You must have completed Matric and be in possession of a National Senior Certificate or equivalent
BA Live Performance Music or BA Motion Picture Music	Gladwell Scholarship	You must be a South African citizen You must be under 25 years old You must be a student of current and paid-up members of the SASMT You must be studying within the music field – instrumental, vocal or composition You must be studying local or international music at an institution or teacher approved of by the Council of the SASMT You must be of grade 8 standard of any the music examining bodies or of a higher standard

BOOK A CONSULTATION

We encourage all potential students to apply to AFDA the year before they are looking to start their tertiary studies. Should you receive your AFDA Acceptance Letter from AFDA (after having submitted your AFDA application and had your consultation), you may include your AFDA Acceptance Letter in your bursary application.

*Please note that AFDA is not allowed to apply for a bursary on your behalf, and it remains the responsibility of every individual student to submit bursary applications to the bursary providers. We can provide you with certain documents that the bursary provider might need, for example a pro-forma invoice for the following year’s tuition fees or a copy of your Acceptance Letter.

Top Tip:

We suggest applying for as many bursaries as possible that you meet the criteria for, as well as considering provisional application for a study loan so you know whether this is an option for you.

Top Tip:

We recommend that once you have received your acceptance letter via email, you use it to apply for your Study Loan in the year before you enrol and start studying at AFDA.

You can apply for multiple loans directly through STUDENT HERO or FUNDI. Student Hero is a free-of-charge consulting service for funding of tertiary education. Their squad is continuously working to keep on par with the available funding options and its prerequisites, to ensure that education can be delivered without the burden of financial uncertainties.
