AFDA Experimental Festival 2026: Celebrating Creative Risk, Innovation and Artistic Discovery

AFDA’s annual Experimental Festival returns across all campuses, showcasing a bold and exciting collection of student work that pushes the boundaries of storytelling, performance, filmmaking, innovation and creative expression.

As one of the highlights of the AFDA academic calendar, the Experimental Festival provides third-year undergraduate students with an opportunity to explore artistic intent, challenge convention and experiment with new forms, ideas and techniques. The festival embodies AFDA’s commitment to nurturing original voices and preparing students for the future of the creative economy.

Throughout the week, audiences will experience a diverse programme of experimental films, television productions, theatre works, music performances, business concepts and interdisciplinary creative projects developed during the first semester. The festival serves as a dynamic platform where students are encouraged to take creative risks, test new approaches and discover innovative ways of engaging with contemporary audiences.

More than a showcase, the Experimental Festival is an important learning milestone. It allows students to present their work to public audiences, receive valuable feedback and gain practical experience in the development, production, marketing and presentation of original creative projects. Over the years, many AFDA productions first explored through student festivals have gone on to achieve national and international recognition, demonstrating the power of experimentation as a catalyst for creative excellence.

The 2026 festival culminates on Saturday, 13 June, with AFDA Day, where Open Day meets the Experimental Festival. Prospective students, parents, educators, industry guests and members of the public will have the opportunity to experience AFDA’s vibrant creative ecosystem firsthand, engaging with student productions while exploring the school’s innovative approach to creative education.

The AFDA Experimental Festival remains a celebration of curiosity, courage and creative exploration, a space where emerging storytellers, performers, entrepreneurs and innovators can challenge expectations and imagine new possibilities for the future.

Join us from 7–14 June 2026 as AFDA campuses come alive with groundbreaking work, fresh perspectives and the next generation of creative talent.
