Set in 1970 South Africa, Babalwa, 23, is one of the leaders of an anti-apartheid activist youth movement that she leads alongside her childhood friend, Sipho, 24. The story starts with a political meeting with the movement being held in Babalwa’s old high school teachers, Siphokhazi, classroom. In the meeting, Sipho interrupts and undermines Babalwa, showing that he does not respect her leadership. Frustrated, Babalwa decides to hold her tongue, but, both her best friend, Khanya, and Siphokhazi can sense Babalwa’s frustration. After the meeting, two police officers overhear the group from the meeting talking about taking action against the police and government. This leads to a confrontation with the police. Babalwa tries to defend the group but this aggravates the police even more. The police begin to attack the group but Siphokhazi steps in, in order for the group to flee. Siphokhazi ends up getting hurt and dragged away, never to be seen again. This sets Babalwa on a journey to try to avenge Siphokhazi’s disappearance.
