Cinematography is his obsession

AFDA Johannesburg cinematography honours graduate (2005), Jamie Ramsay, is a heavyweight in the commercials and entertainment industry. He has shot hundreds of commercials for big international and national brands, including Nandos, Shell, Volkswagen, Vodacom, and MTN. One of the more recent commercials he DOP’d on was Sanlam Investments Genius.

He is also known for his cinematography on films,  both short and feature, his latest work being on  the feature film Moffie (2019), directed by Oliver Hermanus. The film was released in cinemas nationwide at the beginning of March. The film follows the story of a young, gay man who is drafted into South Africa's military. He is aware of his differences and knows he must keep them hidden to survive. However, when another recruit develops an intimate relationship with him, both their lives become threatened. Jamie has DOP’d on Hermanus’s films before, including the films Skoonheid and Shirley Adams.

Jamie is the DOP on the BBC One's long-awaited adaptation of Noughts + Crosses, which finally aired its first episode on March 5 2020.

Earlier on in his career he was the Sweeper Unit DOP on the critically acclaimed film, District 9 (2008), directed by Neill Blomkamp.
