AFDA alumnus takes first prize at Santa Fe Film Festival with his film “The Second”

AFDA Durban 2017 honours graduate, Mpumelelo Kheswa's film, THE SECOND, walked off with the Best Picture in Afro Cinema Award at the 20th Annual Santa Fe Film Festival in New Mexico over the weekend. In 2017, while studying his honours degree Mpumelelo won the first ever, The Pitch South Africa - Film Competition in 2017, pitching THE SECOND.

THE SECOND has also been selected to screen in competition at the 8th Edition Toronto Black Film Festival, the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles, the Denton Black Film Festival in Texas and the 16th annual Dam Short Film Festival in Boulder City, Nevada.   

The Santa Fe Film Festival celebrates all facets of cinematic arts – in New Mexico, regionally and globally. The annual event honours everyone working both on and off screen to bring the best of film creation, production and showings to the public. The festival focuses on bringing together distinguished industry specialists and all movie lovers through accessible screenings, panels and workshops.
