Learners and parents attending AFDA Cape Town Open Day on the 18 May will have the fantastic opportunity of meeting actor and AFDA alumna Shamilla Miller. Shamilla known for playing the role of ‘Jenna Galloway’, on the record breaking Showmax Original murder mystery series will be taking on a brand new role at Open Day, that of  “Guest Speaker”, a first for her in her career

Shamilla graduated with a degree in Film and Live Performance from AFDA Cape Town, after which she spent a few years moulding her craft on stage with the likes of David Kramer and Alfred Rietman. She then teamed up with Vulture Productions where she was a part of five plays that went on to show at the Artscape and Grahamstown Festival.

After a string of commercials, she landed her first lead television role in a youth drama series AMAZA where she played a young Muslim girl that had a strong passion for surfing. She narrowly missed a win in Top Actor Africa 2016, and has been in several other local productions, including Isidingo, Zibondiwe and The Docket.

She was offered the lead in the SAFTA nominated hit film Nommer 37, directed by Nosipho Dumisa, after starring in the short film that inspired the feature. Unfortunately Nommer 37 was shooting at the same time as the BBC 8 part series, Troy: Fall of a City in which she played ‘Athena’.

Shamilla was nominated for and won ‘Best Actress in a Short Film’ at the Mzanzi Short Film Festival for her role in Nommer37. She has also had her hand in international and local films, Zulu. Scardy Kat, Finders Keepers and Sonskyn Beperk.
